It is one of the ancient churches in Kerala and holds a prominent place in the history of Saint Thomas Christians in India. As the legends say, it is the first Christian Church in the world and it is the only church in the name of the Holy Kings.This church is disputed between Indian Orthodox and Jacobite Church

Close to Pazhoor, at a place called Veliyanad is the Melpazhur Mana, the home of holy mother (Aryamba) of Sri Adi Sankaracharya. It is believed that this is the place where Adi Sankaracharya was born. The Mana is very well maintained with all its serenity by Chinmaya International Foundation.

In the beginning of the 20th century the local inhabitants of Arakkunnam found the way for worship too long and tiresome, as there were no local churches in the new vicinity. Their long cherished dream was fulfilled when the foundation stone was laid for building a church at Arakkunnam on February 23rd 1902.
